Slay 8 Divine Beasts to free the world of the Growth  Sickness while you unite the first tribe of man. Kindred is a 2D action adventure that borrows elements from Metroidvanias, and Rogue-lites. You play as The First, the half god, half human entity from which all of humanity was patterned, and a child of the Sun and Moon. Your goal is to slay the 8 Divine Beasts, and end the Growth Sickness that has disrupted the balance of nature, all while helping humanity to build it's first civilization.

In Kindred you will craft two load outs each with one of 6 unique weapon types. Each weapon has a different play style, which acts as the basis of your build.  Select abilities, spells, magic schools, and passive charms to approach challenging battles the way you want. Experiment with weapons you find along the way to unlock new play styles and charms. You can choose how simple or complex your kit is, which allows for tons of player expression.

Important Notes and Limitations.

Kindred is currently in production. This build will allow you to experience the core game loops, and a fair amount of customization, but it still has a lot of limitations.  This early build does not have complete animations, and does not have enemy animations. The game plays best on a controller, and may have some bugs when interacting with keyboard and mouse or Steam deck touch screen.

At this time the game does not explicitly explain all of it's systems, but it does have a guide in the game menu.

This build has an incorrect guide for Spell books. The current implementation of spell books allows you to add up to 3 spells. The spell in the first slot is cast when you press the accompanying action button. The spell in the second slot is cast when you press up and the action button. The spell in the third slot is cast when you press left or right and the action button.

The current play test is asking that player go through the core loop a few times, and experiment with build variety. It should take about 1 - 2 hours of play to unlock all of the systems, and another hour or two to engage with a few more beasts. Expect to play around 3 - 4 hours of the game to get a good feel for all of the systems.  At your convenience, please fill out this feedback form.

Feel free to explore as much as you like, but be aware that the bosses Just, Wisdom, and the final boss Noble are not yet implemented. The Hunter's path are currently under developed, and as of right now there are only a handful of spells implemented.

Once you're ready to give feedback, please see this take a moment to fill out this google form.

Thank you so much for trying out Kindred and I hope you enjoy your time with the build.

Install instructions

This is an executable built with Unity. To play, unzip the folder and run Kindred.exe in the Windows folder. The game currently works best with a controller.

The Linux version does work on the steam deck, though some controls are exhibiting minor glitches. To play on the steam deck, unzip the folder and move it onto your device. Add the game to your library as a non-steam game. Browse for the executable, and remove the filter so you can add kindred.x86_64 to your library, and that has worked for me.
